Boats on an Emerald Lake
Sometimes I really love the internet. Especially when I’ve been to a place and am trying to remember the specific details and I go Googling and uncover a treasure-trove of information about the place I already visited. When we stayed at Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee) it was very clear that this has been a contested region. From the names (Dolomiti but also South Tyrol) to the food (more Austrian than Italian) and the languages spoken, I knew that there was a history here that I didn’t know much about. We got a clear sense of its more recent history when we saw all the WW1 fortifications at Cinque Torre (the whole area was annexed from Austria by Italy after WW1) but I had no idea about Ötzi the Iceman (evidence of people living there 5,300 years ago) nor that it was ruled by the Rhaetians and Romans from 400BC to the 5th Century AD and this is where things get really interesting for me. The Ladin people of Lago di Braies have kept their language from this time – it is the third official language of South Tyrol, alongside Italian and German.
The Ladin people of these mountains have a fascinating and ancient story about Lago di Braies. The legend is that at the southern end of the Lake, at the base of the mountain, there was once a door to the underground Kingdom of the Fanes, where there is much treasure. It is said that the “Sass dla Porta” (Gate Mountain) is only visible when the moon is full and it can be only reached with a boat ride, but once a year on a full moon night, the Queen of the Ladin people, alongside Lujanta, a mythical heroine, rise up from beneath the mountain through a huge natural hole in the rock. According to mythology, the Queen of the Fanes and her people still await the sound of silver trumpets, which will mark the hour of rebirth in peace for the Kingdom of Fanes. Wow!

Open Edition
Prints in the Open Edition are held to an exceptional standard of quality, creativity and craft that make them suitable for any home or workplace. Each Open Edition print is digitally signed and represents excellent value. Open Editions are printed on the same high-quality finishes as our Deluxe prints.
Fine Art Papers
Our prints are created using beautiful fine art cotton rag paper. The paper holds rich colours as well as subtle detail and is a perfect pairing for our photographic art. The museum grade paper meets ISO 9706 Paper Ageing Resistance to ensure an archival grade print, suitable for handing down through generations. We recommend liaising with your local framer about how to match your frame, matting and glass to best suit your print, your home, and your décor. All paper prints come rolled in a heavy-duty tube to protect them. The measurements supplied are of the outer dimensions of the paper. Each print contains a white border between 5-10cm, depending on size, for the purposes of presentation and framing.
Float-framed Canvas Prints
Our Canvas prints have beautiful texture and richness and come framed and ready-to-hang in your home or workplace. The canvas is of excellent quality with a fine texture and excellent archival ratings, and together with the pigment inks, have been lab tested to last over 100 years without fading when displayed suitably. Stretcher bars are from environmentally friendly regrowth forest in Australia and New Zealand. We strictly avoid timber from non-regrowth forests and timbers with high tannin and tannic acid in order to preserve the environment and the archival quality of the canvas. Float-frames come in several finishes. You can view these finishes on our Print Information page. Once you order the Float-framed canvas of your choice, we will be in contact directly to confirm your choice of frames.
Aluminium
Aluminium prints are luminous, contemporary and robust. Chromaluxe aluminium panels are made with recycled material and are 100% recyclable. Archival inks are infused into a durable and scratch-resistant surface via a heat press process. Aluminium prints can be cleaned with a glass cleaner, are light-weight and long-lasting. This makes them perfect for those wanting a modern finish for their home, or for art pieces that will be in more challenging environments such as a busy kitchen, or bathroom.
Postage
Postage to Australian and New Zealand addresses is free! If you are an international purchaser, please order your print as usual (or contact us in advance) and we will send you a quote for the postage of your selected prints.
