The Fallen Soldier

After spending some time in Lofoten in Norway, Matt and I were travelling North and as we were driving past this snow-laden landscape, this stand of trees made us pull over to take some photos. We had just passed through the town of Narvik, where in April 1940, the port there became a battle site as Nazi Germany invaded, aiming to control the iron ore crucial for their war effort. A significant naval confrontation between Nazi-Germany and Great Britain took place, now referred to as the Battle of Narvik, which was one of the Atlantic’s largest battles. It was here in Narvik that Nazi Germany suffered its first defeat at the hands of Norwegian, British, French and Polish forces. Of course, the fighting was not restricted to the harbour, and when we stopped to photograph these trees, the interpretive signs there that explained that an important battle had taken place at this very site. Perhaps it was the trees themselves, or perhaps it was the signs, but when Matt and I saw these trees, we both interpreted them as soldiers – vulnerable, alone, with one of them falling and another fallen. I felt deeply moved by the scene in front of us, as well as the knowledge of the fighting that had taken lives here.

The museum grade paper meets ISO 9706 Paper Ageing Resistance to ensure an archival grade print, suitable for handing down through generations. We recommend liaising with your local framer about how to match your frame, matting and glass to best suit your print, your home, and your décor. All paper prints come rolled in a heavy-duty tube to protect them. The measurements supplied are of the outer dimensions of the paper. Each print contains a white border between 5-10cm, depending on size, for the purposes of presentation and framing.

Float-framed Canvas Prints
Our Canvas prints have beautiful texture and richness and come framed and ready-to-hang in your home or workplace. The canvas is of excellent quality with a fine texture and excellent archival ratings, and together with the pigment inks, have been lab tested to last over 100 years without fading when displayed suitably. Stretcher bars are from environmentally friendly regrowth forest in Australia and New Zealand. We strictly avoid timber from non-regrowth forests and timbers with high tannin and tannic acid in order to preserve the environment and the archival quality of the canvas. Aluminium
Aluminium prints are luminous, contemporary and robust. Chromaluxe aluminium panels are made with recycled material and are 100% recyclable.
